PHYSICAL EDUCATION STATEMENT OF INTENT:

At St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary School, we recognise the importance of PE and the role it must play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles and to appreciate their benefit. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that are challenging, enjoyable and accessible to all. Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferable life skills such as fairness and respect, as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport.

Within our PE lessons:

  • Children are given the opportunity to compare their performances with previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
  • Opportunity is given to engage in competitive (both against self and against others) and co-operative physical activities, in a range of increasingly challenging situations.
  • Sessions allow time for children to develop an understanding of how to improve in different physical activities and sports and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.

Our Subject Leader for P.E. is Mr. Gavin.
